- Why is it important to attend a diabetes education program?
Studies have shown that people with diabetes who have never participated in a diabetes education program have a 4 to 10 times greater chance of developing some of the long term problems that can come from diabetes than people who HAVE participated in a diabetes education program.
- I have had diabetes for many years, am I eligible for the program?
Yes! The ABC Diabetes program is for people who are newly diagnosed or have had diabetes for many years. It is important to have the most up-to-date information in order to confidently manage your diabetes!
- My doctor told me that I only have a touch of diabetes – I am not taking any medication. Should I attend the program?
Whether you are taking medication or not, the ABC Diabetes program is customized to meet your needs. Remember, there is no such thing as “borderline” diabetes!
- How much does the program cost?
The ABC Diabetes Program has contracts with most insurance companies, so there is usually no cost to the participants.
- I attended a diabetes program when I was first diagnosed. Why should I attend again?
Each participant receives an ABC Diabetes Education Manual that is constantly updated to contain the most current information about living with diabetes.
- What will I learn in the program?
In the ABC Program you will learn about healthy eating, the importance of physical activity, staying healthy, managing stress, how to monitor your diabetes, along with much more information. You will gain the confidence to be your day-to-day doctor!
- How do I enroll in the program?
Enrolling in the program is as easy. Simply give us a call and ask to speak with one of our enrollment specialists. Telephone numbers can be found at the bottom of the home page.
- Can I bring someone with me to the ABC Program?
Everyone is invited to bring a family member or friend for support to the program.
- What happens if I miss a class?
If you must miss a class, simply call and ask to be rescheduled and we will arrange for you to make up the class you missed.
